Time is not spent on defining the definitions of the cards--you can read that in any number of books.
The cards provide an established language and the deck speaks to the human condition, both those elements beyond our control (major arcana cards) and our responses to the reality within which we live (minor arcana cards). The main features of Stu's teachings are first to apply discipline in defining the positions in the spread/layout; secondly to establish a comfortable fluent understanding of the cards themselves (including reversed); and finally to speak to the relationship thus created between the individual card and the position where it has been set.
